Fox UT

UT, PAUT and TOFD analysis and reporting on a Windows workstation.

Fox UT reads and writes the open .nde format, and opens MFMC and CSV. It computes the focal laws for PAUT linear and sectorial scans, records from its built-in simulator, a replayed file or acquisition hardware on an open protocol, and shows the data in linked A, B, C and S views, with TOFD tools, DAC / TCG, dB-drop sizing and the report.

  • Open

Simulator, file replay and a TCP instrument protocol.

  • PAUT

Linear and sectorial scans, with focal laws.

  • TOFD

    Lateral-wave removal and SAFT.

  • .nde

Reads 3.3 and 4.x and writes 4.1. Opens MFMC and CSV.

Runs with no instrument attached: a built-in simulator and file replay, plus an open, documented protocol for acquisition hardware.

01Data In, Data Out

How Data Moves Through Fox UT

Fox UT takes data from its simulator, a recorded file, acquisition hardware or a file on disk, and sends it out as a report, an export or a new .nde recording.

  • Data in

From its simulator or a replayed recording, or as .nde, MFMC and CSV files from disk.

  • 1 Linked views

A, B, C and S views that follow one cursor.

  • 2 Gates

    Calibrate, then set the gates.

  • 3 TOFD

Lateral-wave removal and SAFT on the TOFD scan.

  • 4 Size and report

Size by dB drop, then write the report.

  • Data out

A PDF or HTML report from a template, CSV and JSON exports, and a new .nde recording.

    • PDF report
    • HTML report
    • CSV and JSON
    • .nde recording
02The Toolset

From the Setup to a Report

Grouped the way an inspection is worked through.

Acquire

Record encoded scans from the built-in simulator, replay a recorded file, or connect acquisition hardware through an open, documented TCP protocol, and save the result as .nde.

  • Built-in simulator
  • File replay
  • Open TCP protocol
  • Encoded recording
  • Save as .nde

PAUT Setup

Start from a setup template, compute the focal laws for a linear or sectorial scan, and check on a drawing of the weld how the beams cover the bevel.

  • Sectorial
  • Linear
  • Focal laws
  • Scan plan
  • Bevel coverage
  • Setup templates

Linked Views

Read the data in A, B, C and S views that follow one cursor, in panes you arrange yourself, with gates, soft gain, palettes and a weld overlay on the corrected S-scan.

  • A-scan
  • B-scan
  • C-scan
  • S-scan
  • Gates
  • Weld overlay
  • Dockable panes

TOFD

Find the lateral wave, straighten the scan to it or remove it, read depth from the probe spacing, and fit a hyperbolic cursor to a diffraction arc, with SAFT migration as an option.

  • Lateral-wave removal
  • Synchronise
  • Depth from probe spacing
  • Hyperbolic cursor
  • SAFT

Calibration and Sizing

Set the velocity and wedge delay from two echoes and the reference gain, build DAC and TCG curves from reference reflectors, and size what the gate finds by dB drop, listed in an indication table.

  • Velocity
  • Wedge delay
  • Reference gain
  • DAC
  • TCG
  • dB-drop sizing
  • Indication table

Reports and Export

Write the report from a template with your own fields and logo, and take the data out to other tools.

  • PDF report
  • HTML report
  • CSV
  • JSON
  • Report templates
03How an Inspection Runs

Acquire → Analyse → Report

The order an operator works in, from the setup to the report.

Set up

Pick a setup template, enter the thickness and velocity, and compute the focal laws; the scan plan shows the beams on the weld.

Acquire or open

Record from the simulator, a replayed file or hardware on the open protocol, or open an .nde, MFMC or CSV file.

Calibrate

Set velocity, wedge delay and reference gain, and build the DAC or TCG curve from reference reflectors.

Analyse

Work through the linked views, the gates and the TOFD tools, and size what you find by dB drop.

Report

Write the report as PDF or HTML from a template, and export the data as CSV or JSON.

04Platform

Built on Open Formats

Fox UT keeps its data in the open .nde format and connects to hardware over a documented protocol.

.nde

Data formats

Reads and writes the open .nde format (3.3 and 4.x), and opens MFMC and CSV.

4

Output formats

PDF and HTML reports and CSV and JSON exports, with recordings saved back as .nde.

TCP

Open instrument protocol

Connects to acquisition hardware through an open, documented TCP protocol: messages as JSON lines and A-scans as 16-bit samples, with a reference bridge to start from.

6

Setup templates

Conventional 0°, 45° and 60°, phased-array sectorial weld and linear corrosion mapping, and TOFD.

5

Report templates

Weld inspection, corrosion mapping, composite and lamination, calibration record and a generic UT report, each with your own fields and logo.

x64

Windows desktop

Runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11. A built-in simulator and file replay mean it runs with no instrument attached.
